Indian retail investors are turning away from equities and towards fixed deposit rates due to the high-interest rate environment, according to the co-founder and CEO of online brokerage Zerodha, Nithin Kamath. Despite markets hitting all-time highs, Kamath said the optimism wasn’t leading to increased retail interest. “Most retail investors question whether taking the added equity risk is worthwhile when govt bonds and FDs yield 7% plus”, Kamath added. The comments come after six consecutive rate hikes last year by the Central Bank.
