Options trading volumes in India dropped 51% in FY26 after Sebi tightened derivatives rules to curb retail speculation. Higher contract sizes, uniform expiries, upfront premium collection and increased transaction taxes reduced expiry-day trading while encouraging healthier market participation and stability.
